HI, another study (British) relating to heart attacks and endurance running has come out, and states "exercise is great in small doses, but too much physical exertion too quickly or for too long a period can actually put a person’s heart at risk, especially if he or she is over age 35. " Has anyone heard how the Galloway approach may be better for us than the traditional method of distance training? Or using a heart rate monitor may also be beneficial? One study said best not to run more than 20 miles a week, and another pointed to running no more than 60 minutes. Feedback please Question

You want your feedback? I got your feedback right here!
And yes, a heart rate monitor and training aerobically, a la the Galloway Method, are important tools for training the heart properly.

my doc is opposed to the amount i run- so i contacted jeff galloway--we exchanged several emails re: the studies my doc was using to encourage me to curtail my running...jeff pointed out these studies were conducted with a small population, some using elite runners as opposed to every day runners, and exposed some as just not good research..and he countered with more studies, using thousands of runners, that support endurance running

i have the emails with our conversation (as well as jeff's consult with a specialist) and will forward them to you if you want...just give me your email

Thank you both. Scott, I recall you used the heart rate monitor last winter. I regret not pulling mine from the back of the drawer but am excited to put in my gym bag again. And yes, Sue, please when you have the time, email your information, I am at sandrinerunner@yahoo.com.

I hope you both had a good 2012 running year and wish you a healthy active 2013. Cool Smile
